Architecture Shapes
Objective: Students will research the career of architecture as well as advancements made in architecture over the past several centuries. Students will determine the impact how architecture from other cultures has influenced our modern society. Students will analyze the modern works of Frank Lloyd Wright. Students will demonstrate their artistic abilities in designing original architectural structures, using a series of given shapes. Students will also demonstrate a knowledge of drawing floor plans and exterior architectural renderings. These lessons will lead into the further study of environmental design and interior design, which are closely related to architecture.
Steps:
1. Using the Internet or the library, research the evolvement of architecture in America over the past two centuries. Take special note on the influences in our architecture from other cultures, like the Greeks, the Romans, and the Italians. Be able to contribute to a discussion over these influences.
2. Use the ten shapes given to you by the instructor to construct an original architectural structure. If you do not have access to these shapes, use the shapes at the following link--SHAPES. Print off this page and enlarge these general shapes in a simple graphics program or in Microsoft Word. Then cut out the shapes and use them to construct your structure.
3. Trace your shapes onto a larger sheet of paper, arranging them so that they form a 2-dimensional building or other architectural structure.
4. Add a surrounding landscape.
5. Add windows and doors.
6. Add color.
