Textured Cityscapes

Objective:  Students will distinguish between different types of textures in arranging and compiling a composition of buildings to create a mixed media collage.

Steps:

1.  Choose at least seven different textures from the available materials. 

The materials include, but are not limited to:

fabric   

ribbon

string

foil

tissue paper

cotton

construction paper

wooden sticks

wire

chicken wire

silk flowers/leaves

crepe paper

brown paper sacks

newspaper

magazine pictures

upholstery

wax paper

plastic wrap

beads/sequins

felt

glitter

wall paper

cardboard

wax

2.  After you have chosen your seven materials, gather the rest of the supplies you will need, such as scissors, glue, tape, etc.

3.  Cut out your shapes, and arrange your materials on a 15x20 inch sheet of paper to create a cityscape scene with surrounding landscapes. 

4.  Your picture must meet the following criteria:

        7 different textures

        a minimum of 5 buildings

        surrounding landscape

        composition must fill the paper

5.  Glue or tape down the materials as you have them arranged.  Let dry.
