Color Wheel

Objectives:  Students will determine the relationship between the spectrum and the color wheel.  Students will understand the relationships of colors to each other as indicated by their individual positions on the color wheel.  Students will demonstrate artistic ability by creating an original color wheel and then illustrating a landscape scene by using the color wheel as an abject or group of objects within the scene.

Steps:

1.  Discuss and rationalize the organization of the color wheel as a group.

2.  Cut out a random shape from a 3x4 inch piece of paper.  Trace the shape onto a 12x18 sheet of paper 12 times in a circular format.

3.  Using crayons or colored pencils, fill in the appropriate spaces with the correct colors, in the correct order.

4.  Study the shape and position of your finished color wheel.  Determine how it would fit into a landscape design.

5.  Draw your landscape design, juxtaposing the color wheel with it someway.
