Fantasy Art

Objectives:  Students will explore the various ways in which fantasy artists utilize their imaginations, through such things as music design, book illustration, special effects, and video game design.  Students will analyze several examples of fantasy art and examine the role of fantasy art in today's society.  Students will demonstrate artistic skills in rendering their own fantasy illustrations.

Steps:

1.  Examine samples of fantasy art provided by the instructor.  Discuss the various ways in which fantasy art is used.  Define what fantasy art is.

2.  Draw 5 thumbnail sketches of a fantasy illustration.  Make sure your ideas are your own and not someone else's.

3.  Choose the best illustration, with the help of the instructor.

4.  Enlarge your illustration to a 12x18 inch format and add color.

5.  For extra credit, go to http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/elfwood.html and join the fantasy art community of Elfwood, where you can post some of your illustrations.
