Fashion Design

Objective:  To explore the career of fashion design, by studying the steps required in designing different types of fashion wear.  To distinguish between fashion and costume design.  To demonstrate an understanding of conceptual skills by illustrating origianl ideas for fashion wear on basic human forms.

Steps:

1.  Examine samples of fashion design provided by the instructor.  If you do not have access to the samples, go to the following websites to view samples there.  There are also some samples created by the instructor towards the bottom of this page.

2.  Choose a body form or template on which to produce your fashion design.  Your instructor should have copies of the forms for you to use.  If not go to one of the following sites to print your own forms.

3.  Research current trends, using the WWW or library resources.

4.  Examine commercials and television shows for ideas about current trends.  Keep notes in your journal.

5.  Using a pencil sketch out some basic ideas or concepts on the provided form templates.

6.  Choose two to trace or enlarge, sharpen, clean up and add color to.

7.  Turn in the completed designs.
