Gridding Up Pictures

Objective:  To use the mathematical concepts of grids and direct proportion in enlarging pictures.

Steps:

1.  Find a half to full page picture in a magazine.

2.  Using a ruler, mark off the picture in a 1/2 inch grid.

3.  On a blank sheet of white paper, draw a 1 inch grid, using your ruler.

4.  If it will help you, number each square on both the picture and the white paper, lightly in pencil.

5.  Redraw each square of the picture into its corresponding square on the white paper.

6.  When you are finished, you should have a replicated enlargement of the original picture.

7.  This same procedure can be used to enlarge pictures to mural size.
