Figure drawing
Objective: To draw the human figure in correct proportion.
Steps:
1. Take an 8x12 sheet of white paper and fold it into 8 parallel sections as demonstrated:
2. In the top section draw your head in the middle of the line, so that the top of the head touches the top of the page and the chin touches the first line.
3. In the second space, draw your neck and shoulders. The length from the side of the neck to the end of the shoulder should be the same distance from the top of the head to the chin. The second line should go across the middle of the chest.
4. In the third space, bring the lines of the chest inward to form the waist. The thinnest part of the waist should be on the third line. Your elbows should also fall on this line.
5. In the fourth space, bring the sides of the waist outward slightly to form the hips. The widest part of the hips should be on the fourth line. Your wrists should also line up here.
6. In the fifth space, bring the thighs down to above the knees on the fifth line.
7. In the sixth space, draw the knees and the lower legs to just below the knees.
8. Taper the lower legs toward the ankles, which should lie just below the seventh line.
9. In the bottom, the feet will extend outward. If stretched, the toes would touch the bottom of the page.

10. After you have drawn four body outlines in correct proportions, try to draw a figure in a different position using the same proportions.
