Mondrain lesson

 

Objective:  To study the simplistic style of artist Piet Mondrain and understand how his use of lines and primary colors have affected the movement of art.

Steps:

1.  Look at examples of Piet Mondrain's art work (http://abstractart.20m.com/Piet_Mondrian.html ).  Notice the similarities between his pieces.

2.  Research the artistic style of De Stijl, made famous by the Dutch, and particularly Piet Mondrain, in the early 2oth century.  Note the influence that this style had on modern architecture.

2.  On a piece of 12x18 drawing paper, use a ruler to draw a series of intersecting straight lines and shapes, filling the space.

3.  With your medium of choice, fill in some of the defined areas.  Use only black, white, and the primary colors.  The primary colors are red, yellow and blue.

4.  Keep your lines crisp and straight.
