Patriotic Murals
Objective: To discuss and analyze the events that have happened in our country since 9/11; to voice our opinions about the war in Iraq, and terrorism's effect on our nation. To express our emotions and thoughts through art and creativity.
Steps:
1. Think about the events that have affected our country since 9/11--the impact of terrorist attacks on Americans, the search for Taliban terrorists, the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, and the eventual war with Irag. Think about how you feel about these events. Do you feel sorrow, pain, anger?
2. Art can be an avenue of expression without violence. Art is a form of communicating one's feelings and emotions without words, and it is understood universally. When 9/11 happened, there was an outpour of expressive art. So much has happened since then.
3. With that in mind, how would you express your feelings about these current events through art?
4. Look at the expressions of your classmates from last year. These will help you to remember the feelings rushing through America because of 9/11.
5. Illustrate your own feelings of patriotism on a 3x3 foot sheet of craft paper.
