Teacher Portraits

Fundraiser

Objective:  To use a digital camera to photograph every teacher in the school and then use the pictures as references for drawing portraits.

Steps:

1.  Choose a teacher to photograph.

2.  When using the digital camera, remember the basic rules for taking pictures of people.

Take the picture of only what you intend to draw.  If you are drawing a portrait, take a close-up picture of the person instead of a full body picture.

Consider your composition.  Try to exclude as much of the background as possible.

Consider the available lighting when you are taking the picture.  Use your flash if you are in a dark area.

Keep the camera still when clicking, or the picture will be blurry and not usable.

For a different effect, try the sepia, black and white, or solarized filter on the camera.

3.  Print out the picture by inserting the disk into the disk drive of the computer, clicking on Microsoft Paint, and then printing.

4.  Choose an appropriate medium for the portrait.

5.  Draw the portrait first in pencil.  Then add color.
