Scribble Scrabble

Objectives:  Students will explore various techniques of illustrating with paint, without using a paintbrush, such as dribbling, splattering, dripping, etc.  Students will demonstrate control of the medium without touching the paper through various exercises.

Steps:

1.  Get seven sheets of 8x12 drawing paper.  Get one ounce of each of the following colors of tempera paint:  yellow, blue and red.

2.  Without using your paintbrush or any other utensil in contact with the paper, illustrate the following subject matter, one on each sheet of paper:  Fill the page with your illustration.

            a house with landscape

            a large insect

            a tropical forest scene

            a bouquet of flowers

            a pair of shoes

            a domestic animal

            a futuristic car

3.  Move each wet sheet over to the side to dry.
