Still Life in Ink

Objective:  To observe what you are drawing; to not look at stray marks as mistakes; to learn how to draw quickly and with fast gestures of the arm; to fill the provided space.

Steps:

1.  Observe the still life set up.  Sit where you can see it without any obstacles between you and the display.

2.  Using a blue or black ink pen, draw a section of the still life, filling your 12x18 piece of drawing paper.

3.  Fill in any empty spaces with repetitive line patterns.

4.  Use the eight types of lines to create patterns in the empty spaces.

5.  The eight types of lines are horizontal, vertical, angular, zigzag, spiral, broken, curving, and diagonal..

6.  Color only one part of your composition with watercolor.
